My name is Erica. I just graduated from Fordham University last May. I studied psychology and pre-med. I am currently doing HIV/AIDS research at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC. I went to Africa when I was a senior in college with a small NPO called Child Family Health International. For a month I traveled around South Africa's clinic, hospitals, informal settlements, orphanages, and school to observe how the country is coping with or attempting to cope with the HIV/AIDS pandemic. When I returned from my trip I completed my senior year and graduated. I was planning on going right to medical school, but I realized my real passion was working on a global level to aid people with the knowledge I already had. I started doing some homework and came across the Peace Corps. I decided that before medical school I would apply to the Peace Corps. I was accepted and nominated to go to Sub Sahara Africa in June to work on a Health Nutrition Extension Program. I will be teaching community leaders how to teach their people on issues such as early child development, maternal health, HIV/AIDS prevention, and nutrition. I am SO SO excited for this, its really hard to express via email but trust me - I AM THRILLED. I have not been assigned my exact country or exact leave date - but apparently that is normal. The Peace Corps is a bit more spontaneous than I thought, but nonetheless its very exciting.
So yeah that's really me. I enjoy music, art, painting, yoga, hanging with my friends, and helping people.
Finance Officer (not a board member): Karen Kay
