Conversation with Ed Laval, and the possibility of working with http://www.llk-selb.de/ during Imagine PeaceFest this year.  He has experience creating RL / SL events.  I'll meet with Brique sometime soon to pursue.  There is a question about the fundraising aspect though, and of course whether or not we would add another non-profit to our list.

The new year is starting up!  The Peace Train team met a few times over the past several weeks to develop our revised mission statement and also a set of job descriptions for possible internships to be run through a university partner.  All funds from PeaceFest 2010 were distributed just before Christmas - to UMUSEKE in Rwanda, to SEWA in India, and to SafePassage in Guatemala.

Mission:  The Peace Train Charitable Trust is a federally recognized public charity in the United States (501 c 3). Our mission is to create a culture of peace by raising funds and awareness for small organizations doing work on issues of poverty, human rights and peacebuilding. We use technologies to bridge the geographical divides, and create powerful shared experiences. We are inclusive of all who aspire to make a positive change in the world, regardless of age, gender, religion, sexual orientation, nationality or culture.

Helping with the Gulf Wave, a collaboration of numerous folks putting together multiple events to educate and discuss the impacts of the oil pouring into the Gulf of Mexico.

June 27, 2010

PeaceFest 2010!  The planning is beginning.  Just some initial thoughts, and much more to come.

June 16, 2010

Wow a lot has happened:  US $2100.00 was sent to Shelterbox USA!  Another great example of the use of virtual worlds and volunteers to create real-world impact for good!  Thanks to everyone, and there is more to read at the Best of Second Life (BOSL) Blog.  Also, there is some great coverage of the Gardens for Change work that Siri Vita was involved in, and organized by Jenny Valerian.   There is a really neat interactive map of the garden here.

May 23, 2010

Tents For Haiti update:  Over 220K lindens raised so far!  And that is not counting what may be going to the Shelterbox USA site, or to the Peace Train Pay Pal donation.  All proceeds Peace Train collects will go to Shelterbox.  For a full description and links to the sites, go here to the Project Tents site.

NEW PROJECT!  Tents for Haiti Expo!  May 21-30.

This new project is to raise funds for essential needs for displaced families in Haiti.  We all know of the terrible tragedy there a few months back.  It will take a LONG time to get the country to a stable place - economically certainly, and from the standpoint of survivability (at the moment).  Much great work has been done and is being done - this is our chance to be a part of it.  See the planning page for more!

I sometimes forget what this is about - why it is so personally gratifying to do these interviews.  If you ever feel downhearted (as we all can given the suffering and strife in the world) just take a moment and listen to the ASERELA kids, or talk to the folks who are pushing hope into the void left by war; they are building the school for kids in southern Sudan.   A school.  It is a start.  It was a great interview today, a good crowd, and I'll post some pictures in the coming days.  Must get ready for the concert next Saturday too!

March 5, 2010

Preparing for the interview with Robert Oryem, and have confirmation on a number of bands for the March 20th Benefit for the Children.

February 19, 2010

NEW event:  Interview and discussion with Robert Oryem, from southern Sudan on March 14.  Robert leads an effort based in the US called ASERELA (Action for Self Reliance Association) which is funding the building of a school for children in southern Sudan.  This is a pre-cursor to the re-scheduled Ga-Go concert happening on the 20th of March.

January 22, 2010

A new year, and new projects! We have submitted our application for the Linden Prize, and a big THANK YOU to those folks who have supplied testimonials and references!

Current work includes planning for the Ga Go (and others) Concert, and a new idea to run a fashion show with the Miss Virtual Universe group.  Wow.
